Introduction to Cobb Creek Revival (CCR) Farm

Updated: Jun 21, 2022

Hi! As this is our first post from Cobb Creek Revival (CCR) Farm, I will use this first post to introduce you to the farm, including where we are coming from, our current status, and where we intend to go in the future with the farm.

First, a little about us - without rehashing the story you'll find on our website here: https://www.cobbcreekrevival.com/our-story. Our names are Christian and Aaron Bjornson and we are the primary entrepreneurs behind the farm. We are brothers, and sons of Calvin Bjornson and Mona Torgerson. Our sister, Andrea, is also very much involved in the farm and will likely play an important role moving forward. We are all quite proud of our Norwegian roots as well as the history of our family and farm. Our family farm is over 130 years old and has primarily been used as a homestead for crop farming - corn and soybeans. Our little farm cannot compete with today's equipment and acreage requirements for farming crops. Because of this modern reality, we are changing focus from crop farming to pasture-raised livestock. We hope to revive the farm through this opportunity to meet demands for locally-grown produce.

Reestablishing the small farm is an idea that we talked about for years, and the move toward making this a reality is the result of a confluence of several life events that have put us in position to start implementing it. We started the farm's rebuilding process by restoring the homestead - putting time and effort into reviving the farm infrastructure required to support future enterprises. We improved the water well, sewage, drainage, and electrical grid. We also rebuilt the garage, and we are in the process of remodeling the farmhouse as well as putting a new roof on the barn.

Currently, Christian is still serving in the United States Army and living overseas and Aaron is living on the farm, conducting day-to-day business and leading coordination efforts to rebuild the infrastructure. Christian plans to move back to the farm toward the end of 2022 and be officially retired from the military by March 2023. Together, Aaron and Christian have a vision to revive the family farm to provide locally-grown food to the surrounding communities.

The farm will have four main enterprises, including poultry, eggs, pork, and beef. The first of which will be poultry and eggs. After we establish the first poultry enterprise, we will move on to pigs, and then eventually plan to have a small herd of cattle. We will raise all these animals on pasture, which we will slowly take back over the next 5 years from its current use as leased cropland. The goal is to establish good grass and fencing infrastructure to feed and contain the livestock. The farm will sell directly to consumers via farmer's markets. We also plan to establish an online presence where people can order and coordinate pickup directly from the farm or at specified drop-off locations and times.

These are exciting times for us! We will keep you updated on our progress and we look forward to working with you, our customers, to provide the best quality food and service.

Best Regards,

Cobb Creek Revival Farm
